Manufacturing

• First, start collecting the roots of the Rauwolfia plant (Rauvolfia serpentina), a native species from Southeast Asia and the Indian sub-continent.
• Clean the collected roots thoroughly to remove dirt or impurities. Then, let the roots dry to decrease water content in readiness for extraction.
• After drying, grind the Rauwolfia roots into fine powder. This process increases surface area thereby facilitating subsequent extraction of bioactive compounds.
• A suitable solvent should be used in this extraction process. The powdered Rauwolfia roots dissolved in solvents extract these bioactive compounds including reserpine.
• The extracted solution is concentrated such that it attains a high level of 90% concentration of Rauwolfia Extract with reserpine as the main active component being targeted in this course.
• The concentrated solution is filtered to eliminate any solid particles or impurities to get a pure extract. 

Applications

• The extract is also used in making herbal supplements for calming properties, potentially used in the wellness industry.
