Manufacturing
In general, the process of synthesis includes several steps: selection of high-quality green tea leaves, then processing by wilting, crushing, and rolling in a manner suitable for facilitating extraction. There can be a step of controlled oxidation that follows to avoid browning. The processed leaves undergo different methods, such as water or solvents, to extract the desired green tea compound, especially epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). Then, the extract is subjected to drying to a powder form by concentrating the extract to remove the excess solvent or water content from the extract. Finally, the extract is further processed according to the content of EGCG 45% and certain quality standards before packaging and selling to the customers.
Applications
One capsule of concentrated green tea extract contains the same amount of active ingredients as a typical cup of tea. Exercise performance appears to be enhanced by green tea extract as well. While the powder can be added to smoothies, the liquid extract can be diluted with water. It tastes strong, though.
