Manufacturing
Production begins with the harvesting of high-quality roots of Ashwagandha, which are then cleaned and dried under controlled conditions so that all bioactive compounds present in the product are retained. Grounding of the dried roots is done into fine powder to increase the efficiency of the extraction process. Extraction of this powder is done with the solvent, usually, a solvent of water, alcohol, or its mixture, optimized to efficiently solubilize withanolides. The solution is filtered and concentrated under reduced pressure to remove the solvent, hence concentrating the withanolides to the target 1.5%. This concentrated extract was further dried to powder form and withanolide content was tested for consistency and purity.
Applications
Ashwagandha Extract 1.5% may be used for end products in certain food and beverage applications due to its unique flavor profile and differentiated sensorial benefits. However, due importance in the form of giving due emphasis to consumer preferences and the possible interactive nature with other ingredients. The research includes promising areas in the use of Ashwagandha extract in agriculture, like being a natural plant stress reliever for use in soil or plant additives. However, still, further studies and regulation approval are still necessary for practical implementation.
Geographical Specifications
Withania somnifera is native to the dry areas in India, and it has been cultivated on the subcontinent for over 4,000 years. It is found in plenty in almost all drier parts of India, preferring arid and semi-arid zones. This native habitat has contributed to the adaptogenic properties of the plant, for it has developed mechanisms to resist stressors like drought and poor nutrition of soils.
